NHL 24 Trailer Previews Hockey Ultimate Team Changes

A new NHL 24 trailer is out, this time detailing some of the bigger changes coming to Hockey Ultimate Team, or HUT, the card-collecting game within the game.

What’s new in NHL 24’s HUT?

The latest NHL 24 trailer is another deep dive from developer EA Sports and details some of the biggest changes to the mode, including the inclusion of HUT Moments. Much like their name suggests, HUT Moments will allow players to play through some of the most historic moments in hockey. The mode replaces HUT Challenges, which was the previous mode in HUT.

Similar to HUT Challenges, HUT Moments will let players earn rewards for their team by playing through them. Alongside the new moments mode, EA Sports is also tweaking how players can track objectives thanks to the Objectives 2.0 system.

This new tracking system helps make it easier to know what objectives might need to be completed in a game or for any other progress, and will be displayed in game when progress is made.

Another big change to the game comes in its shared economy. Thanks to NHL 24 featuring cross-platform play, EA Sports has also decided to make HUT’s marketplace cross-platform as well. This means that players on any platform will have access to the same in-game marketplace for cards, which theoretically should make finding fairly priced players easier.

Tom Clancy's The Division 3 Announced by Ubisoft

Ubisoft has announced that Tom Clancy’s The Division 3 is in development from Swedish video game developer Massive Entertainment.

What do we know about Tom Clancy’s The Division 3?

The news came in an announcement from Ubisoft that Julian Gerighty had been appointed as the Executive Producer for The Division brand, and will move back to the brand once Star Wars Outlaws (which he’s currently Creative Director of) ships. Gerighty previously served as Creative Director on both The Division games, and in the statement, Ubisoft confirmed a third game was coming.

Ubisoft went on to say that Massive Entertainment is currently building a team for the third game. Gerighty will overseeing the entirety of The Division brand as a whole.

“This announcement represents Ubisoft’s dedication to the longevity of the brand,” Ubisoft said in a note to press. “In his new role, Julian will drive the many interdependent production elements of The Division brand in a unified direction. This includes development oversight, operations, and creative vision together with the development teams around the world who are currently developing the mobile game Tom Clancy’s The Division Resurgence, Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland, and Tom Clancy’s The Division 2.”

“There are only a few games that I can genuinely say blew me away the first time I saw them, and Tom Clancy’s The Division is one of them,” Gerighty added in a statement. “I was immediately hooked, like so many others who are part of our devoted player community. It’s a privilege and an honor to be able to continue to build incredible and unforgettable experiences in this amazing world with the most talented teams around the world, and I can’t wait for what’s next.”

Tom Clancy’s The Division originally launched in 2016, as an online-only action role-playing game. The game was set in a near future New York City following the aftermath of a viral pandemic, and saw players fighting across an empty Manhattan. A sequel was released in 2019, and a spin-off game — Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland — is also currently in development.

Crystal Dynamics Layoffs: Tomb Raider Developer Issues Statement

More layoffs have happened in the video game industry, with the Embracer-owned developer Crystal Dynamics reportedly laying off a number of employees on Wednesday.

Several former employees confirm layoffs have occurred

The news came via several Crystal Dynamics employees, who confirmed the layoff was happening across social media. While it’s unclear just how many people have been laid off, it seems as if the marketing and branding side of the company have been hit the hardest, with a handful of employees taking to Twitter to confirm that they had been let go.

“Sadly the Embracer layoffs keep coming and I and a number of talented brand/marketing folks at Crystal are impacted,” said Nick Edwards, the former senior brand manager for Crystal Dynamics. His tweet also hinted that other affected parts of the company included project management, PR, editing, and 2D art divisions.

On LinkedIn, other members of the team confirmed the layoffs, with former communications director Adam Kahn confirming he had been part of the layoffs.

In a tweet sent out confirming the news, Crystal Dynamics said that it had laid off nine brand and marketing employees, as well as one IT employee. The company cited an “internal restructuring” as the reason why.

The news comes as a bit of a surprise, as earlier this year, Crystal Dynamics noted that it wouldn’t be impacted by the large amount of layoffs that other Embracer-owned companies were going through at the time. The company is currently working on the Tomb Raider Remastered trilogy, which it announced this year, and is set to release on February 14, 2024.

UFC 5 Trailer Previews Real Impact System, New Visuals

EA Sports has unveiled a new UFC 5 trailer ahead of the game’s launch on October 27, 2023, showcasing just how far the series has advanced thanks to the Frostbite Engine.

New Real Impact System provides increased realism, visuals

The new UFC 5 trailer details some of the changes coming to the game, including the franchise’s integration into the Frostbite Engine that other EA Sports title use.

Check out the UFC 5 trailer below:

The use of the new engine will result in increased realism and fighter intensity, according to Electronic Arts. The new “Real Impact System” will also make for some big advances in visuals and gameplay, including:

  • Cinematic K.O. Replay: Cinematic K.O. replays showcase fight-ending finishes with intensified visuals and enhanced excitement. Presented in super slow motion with cinematic angles and lighting, the impact of fight-ending shots represents highlight reel moments recapturing the drama of a UFC fight.
  • Doctor’s Checks and Stoppages: Suffering a notable injury prompts the referee to pause the fight for a ringside doctor’s inspection. Failure to adapt and protect the injury from further damage can lead to a doctor’s stoppage, which introduces true-to-sport strategic variables for players to navigate under heightened pressure.
  • New Strikes and Hit Reactions: New Strike animations emulate heavy hitters, professional kickboxers and more – coupled with new motion variations for ground and pound elbows, spinning attacks, body punches and calf kicks. Plus, the Hit Reaction animations and physics during a frenetic fight can initiate clean connection impacts – moments players can feel with next-level immersion during gameplay.
  • Seamless Submissions: Revamped Seamless Submissions extend the existing grappling system with faster animation transitions and the removal of mini games. Grapple Assist aids beginners, while veterans can explore deeper layers. Seamless submissions provide a smoother, authentic ground game for grappling enthusiasts.
  • Fight Week and Alter Egos: UFC 5‘s launch includes a revamped live service with features like Fight Week and Fight Picks tied to real-world UFC events. Alter Egos are all new versions of top fighters which capture authentic career-defining moments and provide alternative looks and associated abilities.

“UFC 5 is the most realistic MMA experience fans can have outside of the Octagon,” said UFC President Dana White. “This game is incredible and truly a next-generation UFC experience.”

The cover athlete for UFC 5’s Deluxe Edition will be former UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya, while UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski and former UFC flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko will be on the Standard Edition box art.

According to a recent report from The Game Post, Bungie’s unannounced third project in development will be made using Epic’s Unreal Engine.

What do we know about Bungie’s unannounced game?

The report mentions that the game (codenamed “Gummy Bears”) is inspired by several different genres, including the MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) genre.

The report goes on to mention that multiple sources familiar with the project’s development note that Unreal Engine is being used as the base for the game. One source specifically mentioned Unreal Engine 5.

While not too much is known about the game, the report goes on to mention that it is a “brand-new IP and universe” from Bungie. Furthermore, the live-service game will feature “competitive PvP team vs. team combat with ‘brightly colored’ characters and isometric gameplay.” The report also calls it something “completely different” than any other Bungie game.

Back in 2018, internet sleuths discovered that Bungie had filed a trademark application for something called “Matter.” No further information was ever made public, and it’s not known whether Matter is still in development or has been canned. Job descriptions posted by Bungie over the years suggest that several unannounced projects not related to Destiny were in the incubation phase.

As previously unearthed by TweakTown in March 2022, at least eight open job positions directly mentioned a new IP.

The Elder Scrolls 6 Will Skip PlayStation 5

The question as to whether or not The Elder Scrolls VI will be an Xbox exclusive may have finally been answered according to a new Microsoft document.

What is the latest information about The Elder Scrolls 6?

In a tweet on Monday, Axios reporter Stephen Totilo shared a recently unsealed document from Microsoft’s responses in the FTC vs. Microsoft trial. The document lists a handful of Bethesda titles, including The Elder Scrolls VI.

What’s interesting, though, is that the document refers to the highly anticipated Elder Scrolls title as an Xbox and PC exclusive, as well as noting that it is expected to release in “2026 or later.”

The news may not come as a surprise given that recent Bethesda games, including 2023’s Starfield, have not end launched on PlayStation or any other platforms. However, the topic of The Elder Scrolls VI’s exclusivity has been a hot topic for discussion, and one that Xbox and its boss Phil Spencer has danced around a bit.

Earlier this year, other Microsoft documents suggested that the game could make its way to PlayStation. However, Sony doesn’t believe that the game will be made available to its platform, as the company said during the FTC trial that it believes Microsoft plans on making it exclusive.

Officially, platforms have not been confirmed for The Elder Scrolls 6 yet. Xbox CEO Phil Spencer previously hinted the game could be an Xbox exclusive, although previous documents submitted during the arguments have hinted the game may come to PS5 after all. Either way, you can see why Sony may be worried about the future of Call of Duty.

Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 Announced With Release Date

Milestone announced on Monday that the upcoming Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged would include a handful of new game modes, including the return of a single-player campaign.

What’s new in Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged

In addition to a set of returning game modes, five brand-new modes will be added into the game when it launches on October 19, 2023 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

These modes include:

  • Elimination: A mode where the slowest racers are eliminated every few seconds
  • Drift Master: A mode where players have to maintain precision and style to gain points
  • Waypoint: A mode where players have to explore and uncover secrets, and learn the fastest way through areas
  • Grab the Gears: A mode that sees players battle against each other to collect as many Gears as possible
  • Clash Derby: An online duel mode for Monster Trucks only, that sees players battling it out

Alongside the new modes, the game will also once again feature a single-player campaign, albeit a more enhanced one. The campaign takes players back into the city with protagonists Robert and Darla as well as their robot assistant XR046. The campaign will see the trio tasked with saving the day after Professor Tanabe accidentally releases creatures onto the city.

Returning from the original game will be the ability for players to create their content, with Milestone noting that things have been taken to the extreme this time around. A new, refined Track Editor has been added into the game that includes special modules and features that will allow for even more diverse user-generated tracks. All user-generated content will also be shareable cross-platform from day one of the game too, so players will have access to the best tracks.

NHL 24 Trailer Teases New Engine, Release Date Set

EA Sports unveiled a new NHL 24 trailer on Friday, teasing some of the changes coming to the game’s presentation, crowd atmosphere, and more.

What’s new in NHL 24?

The latest NHL 24 trailer teases some of the changes coming to how NHL 24 is presented while playing. This includes things like Hype Moments, a new system that tracks positive and negative events in a game that, when reached, will cause the in-game crowd to react differently.

Check out the trailer for some of the changes in NHL 24 below:

The in-game crowd will also react variously actions like stoppages, big plays, and late-game scenarios. Presentation in NHL 24 will also utilize the rink itself to communicate information to the players. The Dynamic Rink Boards is an expansion of previously augmented reality broadcasts and will feature different stats and key summaries around the rink itself so players will always know what’s going on in the game.

New goal celebrations are also set to arrive in NHL 24, with more than 75 goal celebrations, new camera angles, lighting effects, and the ability to set specific celebrations as well.

NHL 24 will come out on October 6, 2023, on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. For those looking to play early, EA Sports revealed that EA Play members will get three days of early access, as well as member-only rewards throughout the season.
