Just a day after launch, Payday 3 servers are down as player demand has caused them to crash on all platforms. Since yesterday’s launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, the game has been riddled with matchmaking issues that have seen many players left sitting in their safehouse.

The Payday 3 team is “working hard” to restore server functionality

Earlier this afternoon, developer PLAION reported another increase in matchmaking issues. A few minutes later, it became clear that all platforms were unable to matchmake and they were “working hard to restore functionality.”

Matchmaking issues began shortly after Payday 3 launched. After the developer deployed some fixes for the initial issues, the team declared the game open for business earlier this morning. Unfortunately, the issues have reared their ugly heads again. As Payday 3 doesn’t have an offline mode, it leaves everyone unable to rob banks and art galleries, although the most frustrated players are those who were able to start heists but have found themselves unable to escape as the servers disconnected, as demonstrated by Reddit user b1sakher.

The server issues have reopened the debate about online-only games. Despite also being a live service game, the game’s predecessor, Payday 2, had an offline mode that allowed players to take on the heists single-handedly and many players are calling for a return of that option. In fact, one PC player is already working on a mod that will add an offline mode for players on that platform, but there’s no ETA on its arrival and PS5 players will miss out, of course.

It’s too early to tell whether the matchmaking issues will be a short or long term problem, and even whether they will get in the way of the planned schedule of post-launch content. Starting later this year, there are four add-ons planned to be released through Fall 2024.

If you’re looking to grab the Platinum trophy for any of these three games, you’ll want to start them sooner rather than later as all are lengthy completions.

Horror fans will find a bit of a dent in their PS Plus Extra and Premium collection too as Goosebumps The Game, Inside, Limbo, The Medium, and The Quarry are all leaving the service, a seemingly bizarre decision for a month that celebrates all things spooky during Halloween. The good news is that both Goosebumps and The Medium offer fairly quick Platinum trophies. Inside and Limbo are also quick completions although lack a Platinum trophy.

Finally, the Yakuza franchise also loses a trio of games next month, all of which will likely take many hours to get the Platinum trophy. Be sure to get a move on if you want to finish any of these by the time they leave.

Roblox will be coming to PS5 and PS4 as the company revealed the release date is next month. This means the game’s Xbox console exclusivity will soon be coming to an end, though a release for Nintendo Switch is much more uncertain.

When is the Roblox PS5 and PS4 release date?

An exact Roblox release date wasn’t revealed, but the game will be released on PS5 and PS4 in October 2023. Following plenty of rumors that the game would be appearing on PS5 and PS4 soon, the news was confirmed during the ninth annual Roblox Developers Conference (RDC) today.

The game had previously been excluded from PlayStation platforms because of concerns that some of the app’s content could lead to child exploitation. During the Microsoft and Activision vs. FTC court battle earlier this year, PlayStation head Jim Ryan was revealed to have told investors that Sony had “reviewed and relaxed” some of their policies to allow Roblox onto their console ecosystem. As such, all of the experiences that are currently available on mobile, PC, and Xbox will be available to access on PlayStation consoles upon the app’s release.

Roblox also announced the game would be released on Meta Quest later this month. The developers’ open beta has been a huge success during the first five days of release. The Xbox version will also be getting an update with a new appearance to improve user experience, better content recommendations, and a promise of more frequent updates.

The game’s release on Nintendo Switch is not as certain at the moment. This platform wasn’t mentioned during today’s RDC, and Roblox CTO Dan Sturman told Axios’ Stephen Totilo that there was “nothing to announce now” in terms of plans to bring the game to Switch. However, Sturman does believe the game would be capable of running on Nintendo Switch in its current form.

The E3 2024 in-person event has been canceled after the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) informed the Los Angeles Convention Center that it would not be holding a show at that location. In the meantime, reports suggest that the company is looking to reinvent E3 once again in time for the 2025 show.

E3 2024 could still happen, just not in a physical space

While the in-person event has been canceled at its normal venue, E3 2024 has not been canceled outright. The event could still go ahead in a different form and could be a digital show akin to that seen in 2021 when digital showcases from many different publishers were accompanied by an online portal and supporting app.

Despite earlier rumors that both E3 2024 and E3 2025 had been canceled earlier in the year, GamesIndustry.biz reported that the ESA is “working on a complete reinvention of the E3 show for 2025.” However, this reinvention will no longer involve ReedPop, the company behind PAX and New York Comic-Con, which has now ended its relationship with the ESA following a “mutual decision” to part ways.

ReedPop had signed a deal with the ESA to relaunch E3 beginning in 2023. However, despite plans to hold both in-person and digital events this year, they were all canceled due to a lack of interest and the fact that many developers and publishers just wouldn’t have been ready on time. Now, ReedPop will no longer be involved in any future E3 events. ESA president and CEO Stanley Pierre-Louis gave a statement on the matter that thanked ReedPop and contained a look into the future.

We appreciate ReedPop’s partnership over the past 14 months and support their ongoing efforts to bring industry and fans together through their various events.

While the reach of E3 remains unmatched in our industry, we are continuing to explore how we can evolve it to best serve the video game industry and are evaluating every aspect of the event, from format to location. We are committed to our role as a convenor for the industry and look forward to sharing news about E3 in the coming months.

Only time will tell what the future holds for E3, but bearing in mind the event hasn’t run since 2021, its future doesn’t look bright. Summer Game Fest, which rose in E3’s absence, has also only been growing over the years.

Gearbox has confirmed the existence of the rumored Borderlands Collection: Pandora’s Box for PS5 and PS4, announcing it will launch later this week with a 60% discount. In fact, if players already own some of the games within the collection, they can purchase an upgrade for just $30.

What’s in the Borderlands Collection: Pandora’s Box?

Borderlands Collection: Pandora’s Box will include all six games in the Borderlands franchise, as well as all of the DLC released before September 1, 2023. These are:

• Borderlands
• Borderlands 2
• Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel
• Tales from the Borderlands
• Borderlands 3
• New Tales from the Borderlands

The Pandora’s Box release date is September 1, 2023, meaning players have to wait less than 24 hours to get their hands on the entire collection for PS4 or PS5. The collection will only be available digitally from the PlayStation Store and is usually priced at $149.99. However, the collection will launch with a 60% discount at a price of $59.99 for a limited time. Neither developer Gearbox Software nor publisher 2K mentioned for how long the discount will be available.

Players who already own some of the titles within the compilation will be able to complete their collection for a discounted price. If you own a digital or physical copy of Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition or Borderlands: The Handsome Collection on PS4, or Borderlands 3 on PS5 or PS4, there will be a $30 upgrade offer. All players need to do is to start one of those listed games and follow the in-game instructions.

Meanwhile, Gearbox also announced a new Echoes from the Borderlands podcast series that goes into detail about the franchise’s history and legacy. The first episode airs at 5 AM PT on September 1 and will air at the same time every Thursday following. The podcast can be found on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Amazon Music, iHeartRadio, and Pandora.

The pre-orders for the physical editions of Jurassic Park Classic Games Collection will start later this week, and Limited Run Games has revealed the contents of the Classic Edition and Prehistoric Edition. Among the goodies included in the Prehistoric Edition is a dinosaur acrylic lamp and a VHS-style box.

Pre-orders for all three versions of the game are available from September 1. Once the pre-order period is over, Limited Run advises that it could take up to 8-9 months for the products to be shipped as they are still to be manufactured.

The Jurassic Park Classic Games Collection is just one of many retro games coming to Limited Run Games over the next few months. Other titles include Clock Tower, Gex Trilogy, and Tomba.
